7th February 2010Parents usually have high expectation of their children. The children are expected score straight As in school examinations and step into University to pursue education leading to professional career. Many of these dreams are also transffered from the parents' expectation of themselves to their children. These desires may inspire the children to excel their education but also at times suffocates them. Ms Nanthini Ramalo, the lead Psychological Counselor at DHRRA Malaysia, requested the parents to pay attention to the needs and aptitude of the children and think of their future. According to her, parents may also consider vocational pathways for their children as its a lucrative industry as well. Mis Nanthini Ramalo shared about a then-16 year old delinquent. Understanding the lack of interest and capabilities in academic studies, Ms Nanthini had motivated him to take skill training. Through successful counselling sessions, now, at 22 years of age, he has completed his vocational training and started a career in Information Technology field. |
