Zimbabwe DelegationThe DHRRA-ERA Community Centre was honoured to welcome delegation from Zimbabwe, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Honourable Thokozani Khupe to the Headquaters of the Community Centre Project, located in Petaling Jaya on 22nd of February, 2010. The delegation which comprises prominent individuals includes the Executive Director of ADI, Tashinga Mtindike and Embassy personnels.
African Democratic Institute (ADI), established in 2009 in South Africa, is a non-profit, independent and non-governmental. ADI seeks to enhance democracy through debate, building capacity of existing leaders, building future leadership, economic empowerment and education. ADI works with the local partners to promote democratic principles and values in Africa and thus empower citizens to increase participants in national issues.
The objective of this trip is to enhance democracy and democratic values, as well as encourage the development of democratic leadership within the African continent.
The delegation were interested to discuss projects that deal with women's initiatives, women's cooperatives projects, as this would enable them to collate comprehensive information with the hope to set up similar initiatives in Zimbabwe. Apart from Malaysia, the delegation will also visit countries like India and Singapore to learn best practises to empower women to be become independent and self-sustained.
Zimbabwe DelegationAt the Community Centre, Miss Nanthini Ramalo, Secretary General of Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas, Malaysia (DHRRA) gave an overview of the Community Centre Project which was started in 2003 with the grant from European Union and Friedrich Naumann Foundation. Also present at the discussion were the representatives of Asian-Pacific Resource & Research Centre for Women (ARROW). Furthermore, Mr Saravanan Sinapan, President of DHRRA Malaysia shared on the entrepreneurship initiatives for women by the community centres. According to Saravanan, one may express desire to earn additional income but whether they have motivation and interest is one of the determining factor of success. Zimbabwe Delegation
At the community centre, the women first complete business training which includes; goal setting and motivation, planning a business, money management, behaviour in business, and implementing a business. They are then provided with skills such as cooking or weaving which can be further developed into income generating skills. Through this project, many women have started business with minimal capital. He also stressed on the need for follow-up-assistance and motivation to guide the women to face challenges in business and family.
The Community Centre hosted dinner for the Zimbabwe delegation. The event was joined by advisors of the Community Centre; Datuk Marimuthu Nadason, President of ERA Consumer and Dato Indrani Thuraisingham, Head of Consumers International, KL Office. They shared their experiences and challenges as the pioneers of the Community Centre Project.  They also spoke on other projects such as the human rights training for women leaders in political parties, NGOs and grassroots.  
Zimbabwe DelegationIn the thanking note, the representative of the delegation said, “To ERA Consumer , very appreciative of this  dinner and welcome and  for bringing us together, and we hope that you going continue to support us. Hope that ERA can be the link between Malaysia and Zimbabwe now as far as women empowerment is concern.” The representative expressed interest for further interaction between Zimbabwe and the DHRRA-ERA Community Centre to empower vulnerable women of Zimbabwe with further skills and knowledge.
