It evolved from what was formerly known as MasDHRRA (1974-1998) and later, DHRRA Network Malaysia (1999 – 2005) that worked towards organizing a strong rural and self-reliant community through poverty alleviation and people’s empowerment initiatives.

KUALA LUMPUR: Parents-in-law or, more specifically, mother-in-law horror stories are widespread and with good reason as a study by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) shows.
Meddlesome in-laws are the main reason Indian couples divorce but it figures as one of the top reasons for divorce among Chinese and Malay couples, too.
The Malaysia Community and Family Study 2004 showed that the two other factors are incompatibility at 42.3% and infidelity at 12%.
NYT: Frequent Moves Increase Suicide Risk in Teens

Teenagers and pre-teens who had moved frequently were more likely to make suicide attempts in later years than similar youngsters who had not moved, and the more often they had moved, the higher their risk, a study of children in Denmark has found.
Adolescents ages 11 to 17 who had moved three to five times were about twice as likely to have attempted suicide as those who never had changed residences, while those who had moved more than 10 times were four times as likely to attempt suicide.
A skill training session was held in Dengkil, Selangor. The ladies who attended this program, were taught fruit decoration techniques. The particpants were very excited to learn this skill. According to the resource person, this skill need lots of patience and creativity.

Conflict Management

DHRRA Malaysia conducted a program on Conflict Management for the women at Dengkil. In this workshop, the women had opportunity to share the conflicts that they are facing and discuss the coping strategies. The resource person pointed out that conflicts may strengthen the relationship and deepen understanding, however, if its not handled well, it may break the relationship. Therefore, its very important that conflicts are not brushed away but aknowledged and both parties must take effort to understand each other and resolve the conflict.
Skill Training: Weaving Cushion Cover

A skill training session was held in Pontian, Johor. In this session, the participants were taught the method to make cushion cover using ribbon. The participants enjoyed learning the new skill. According to the resource person, this skill can also be used to generate additional income for the family on top of making cushion covers for personal use.

Workshop on Stress and Conflict Management Held in Bidor

A program on Stress and Conflict Management for women was conducted in Bidor recently. This session was held in collaboration of Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. Some of the speakers involved were Mr. M.S. Saravanan, Miss Kogila Vaani Vellian & Mr. Kalai Rajan. The participants were exposed to the symtoms and the consequences of stress. The speakers also discussed stress and conflict managment methods.

DHRRA Malaysia has organized many successful programs for youths, students, and women’s especially for single mothers. Today, many people who came to DHRRA Community Centre have become independent and are able to cope with the life challenges and difficulties. Among the people who have benefited is Kalaiarsi, 21 years old from Perak. Today, she has graduated from an Allied Health Sciences college which was introduced by DHRRA Malaysia. Her encounter with DHRRA Malaysia was at the delicate age of 16 years . In 2004, she joined the youth programme at Taiping Community Centre.

Taming Anger

According to Mr. R, his 14 years old son , Ram (not his real name) has series of anger outburst. He gets angry often even with his father. He cannot accept if his father says anything to him. One of the extreme outbursts was when he walked from Kepong to Batu Caves because he was angry with his father. He even tried to cross the highway which was dangerous act.

Is your child having difficulties in reading and writing or identifying numbers? They might be suffering with dyslexia. According to the National Institutes of Health, dyslexia is a learning disability that can hinder a person’s ability to read, write, spell and speak. Children with dyslexia have difficulty in learning to read even with understanding simple instruction. It is caused by impairment in the brain's ability to translate images received from the eyes or ears into understandable language.
